As part of its ‘One Community’ programme; 20 employees from Mira Showers recently undertook a Ground Force style project to makeover outdoor spaces at Whaddon Youth Centre, a few hundred metres from the company’s HQ in Cheltenham. During the challenging project, volunteers cleared overgrowth, levelled ground, planted flowers, erected new and relocated existing sheds; and built a brand new patio area, complete with benches and a pergola.
As members of the local Oakley Regeneration Project, the company is committed to helping improve local facilities in an area where many of its staff and their families live. The Youth Centre has no funds of its own to support such projects, and appealed to Mira – as a local employer – for assistance. The two-day project culminated in a celebratory BBQ when the volunteers, and youth centre users, celebrated their joint achievement.
Roger Crabb, Marketing Manager, Mira Showers, commented on the makeover: “Such projects are very much in keeping with our principles of Corporate Social Responsibility; and we were delighted that so many of our employees, including our apprentices, took part and were excited to create a really useful space for the enjoyment of all the young people that use the club”.
